So here you have it. A waffle-inspired yellow buttermilk cupcake topped with maple syrup buttercream frosting and a mini helping of chicken and waffles.

I love when bakeries use social media and I love innovative cupcakes, and those two things are combined in what's happening with Portland, Oregon company Savor Cakes. They have a Kickstarter fundraising campaign going through August 11th. From their Kickstarter page, where you can donate ($10 gets you a free savor cake, and there are many other rewards):

Savor cakes look like a cupcake and are portable like a cupcake but are savory instead of sweet! Now you can have the best of both worlds!

A savory star is born! - Savor cakes were born from a personal need to enjoy all the delicious meals I enjoyed growing up (you know the ones that give you the warm fuzzies when you think about them) whenever I want and wherever I am. Savor cakes are awesome comfort foods like chicken soup, pulled pork, bacon and eggs and even meatloaf baked into little portable packages. Instead of cake, we use biscuit, croissant and even pizza dough. We use fresh and local ingredients that taste good and make you feel good.

As of this posting, they still have to raise $6,684. The way Kickstarter works is that those who donate won't be charged unless the campaign reaches its goal (in this case, $12,000), by the given date.

Meatloaf, chicken/waffle/bacon, vegetable and macaroni and cheese cupcakes were on the menu at Harvest Bistro at Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek!

These savory cupcakes were actually on the menu at Cupcake Lovers Weekend July 9 (I didn't see it in time or I'd have posted it) at Harvest Bistro at Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek last weekend! Wow wow wow...if they do it again I totally want to go. Descriptions via Bonnet Creek Blog.


This fun creation (above) is made of ground beef and pork, topped with a cream potato frosting, English peas and a roasted tomato BBQ sauce.


This is a vanilla waffle “cupcake” base, topped with a creamy maple bacon frosting and popcorn fried chicken.


This amazing treat is made from roasted asparagus, mushrooms, tomato and spinach, all baked in an egg custard and topped with tomato cream.


This take on traditional mac and cheese starts with macaroni baked in a velvety creamy cheese sauce and piped with a mascarpone cheese and chive frosting.
