Children's cupcake novel author Lisa Schroeder has fun with cupcakes on YouTube to promote Sprinkles and Secrets

Lisa Schroeder, whose book It's Raining Cupcakes came out last year, is back with a sequel called Sprinkles and Secrets and to promote it, she's made lots of YouTube videos with her dressed as a cupcake! Check out her blog at lisaschroederbooks.com for more information.

Plot description:

Twelve-year-old Sophie has always dreamed of becoming an actress and being in front of the camera. So when she’s offered an opportunity to audition for a TV commercial spot—and a chance to make her dreams come true—she’s over-the-moon happy. But then she finds out what exactly she’ll be advertising: the scrumptious, ever-popular brownies from Beatrice’s Brownies. And there’s just one problem with Beatrice’s Brownies….the brand is the number one competitor to It’s Raining Cupcakes, the shop owned by her best friend Isabel’s family.

Sophie has a tough choice to make: Follow her dreams or crush her best friend. What’s a girl to do?

The first one, the Scrabble video, is my favorite, as a word nerd.

Video: How to make raw vegan cupcakes with Shannonmarie from Rawdorable and her kids!

I've been a fan of the raw food blog Rawdorable and their beautiful cupcakes for a while, and now I've discovered blogger Shannonmarie has videos! Here she has her son filming and her daughter "helping" and walks you step by step through making a raw vegan cupcake inspired by TV. I'm not gonna lie: hearing her talk to her kids while also dishing out cupcake instructions is my favorite part of this video! I also like that she doesn't speed through it, she tells you why she's using each ingredient and how it works. Yes, this is a long video, but I'd rather watch a longer video that walks you through each step than one that leaves things to the imagination. I also like that these are unusual (liquid aminos! paprika! cayenne!). Plus it's funny ("you don't even know what bacon is, you think it's a funny word"). And Happy Anniversary to Shannonmarie and her husband and good job to her son on being a videographer.

If you're not the video type, you can get not just one but two cupcake recipes over at Rawdorable, photos below. They're a strawberry lemonade cupcake and a Maple Fakin' cupcake.

Mayor Cupcake out on DVD July 19!

Good news: the DVD of the film Mayor Cupcake starring Lea Thompson and Judd Nelson comes out next week (July 19)! My friend Noah (who often gives out cupcakes at his NYC trivia night Big Quiz Thing) gave me a copy. I will be watching it soon and sharing my thoughts here.

Official description:

Mary Maroni is a loving wife, a caring mother of three, and Bridgestones finest cupcake baker. Her simple life becomes a lot more complicated when her daughter secretly nominates her to run for mayor. Before she can react, a unfortunate accident involving the incumbent mayor sends her straight into office. With the love and support of her family to guide her, it is up to Mary to prove that she has the right ingredients to clean up the town. All rise for Mayor Cupcake!

More from Blockbuster.com:

An uneducated, small town baker is catapulted into the mayor's office after the incumbent mayor experiences a debilitating accident. Bridgestone cupcake maker Mary Maroni (Lea Thompson) is a successful businesswoman, and a happy homemaker. The mother of three children, Mary finds her already-busy routine shaken up considerable after her daughter quietly nominates her for the office of mayor. As fate would have it, the current mayor quickly becomes unfit to serve, leaving the position wide open for the reluctant newcomer. Later, just when Mary starts to sense that she's gotten in over her head, she learns that no problem is too big when your loved ones are there to offer a helping hand. ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
