Childhood cancer awareness benefit cupcakes by Houston's Crave Cupcakes

Via Houston food blog Eating Our Words:

The cupcake company has partnered with MD Anderson Children's Cancer Hospitals's Art in Medicine program to raise awareness about childhood cancer.

Pediatric cancer patients have designed a logo for the project, which will be featured on all of the CRAVE Cupcakes's Childhood Cancer Awareness boxes. In addition to this artwork, a portion of the proceeds from each box purchased will go to support MD Anderson's crucial Art in Medicine program, which helps to provide a better quality of life for pediatric cancer patients through art instruction and therapy.

Even better, a portion of the proceeds from each box of CRAVE Cupcakes delivered anywhere within the Medical Center -- whether they're Childhood Cancer Awareness boxes or not -- will also go to benefit the program.

See Crave Cupcakes on Facebook for more information.

Win a Cupcake Diaries back to school package with 2 books and an apron!

Our latest contest is to win a copy of 2 Cupcake Diaries books, Katie and the Cupcake Cure and Mia in the Mix by Coco Simon, about a group of middle school students who are friends who form a cupcake club and sell them at school and other events, along with a Cupcake Diaries apron. Enter at this Formstack link through September 6th. U.S. addresses only. Click here to see our writeup of the first two books, and also make sure to visit the official Cupcake Diaries site for a book trailer, excerpts and more info on these 4 cupcake lovers!

The latest Cupcake Diaries book is Emma on Thin Icing, and it just came out.

We'll have a review shortly, but here's the official summary:

When Mia asks the girls in the club to be junior bridesmaids in her mother's wedding, everyone is superexcited about the idea...especially when they find the perfect dress for the occasion! It's Emma's dream dress, except it's a little more than she expected. And with her mom now out of a job (she's been put on furlough at the library) there's not a lot of room at the Taylor's house for extras. But not wanting to disappoint her friends, Emma decides to take on a few more jobs and chores around the house to help cover the cost. Between babysitting her bratty brother, a dog-walking business, flute practice, the Cupcake Club--and oh yeah, being a typical tween girl--Emma may have bitten off more than she can chew. Can she handle it all?

Video: How to make raw vegan cupcakes with Shannonmarie from Rawdorable and her kids!

I've been a fan of the raw food blog Rawdorable and their beautiful cupcakes for a while, and now I've discovered blogger Shannonmarie has videos! Here she has her son filming and her daughter "helping" and walks you step by step through making a raw vegan cupcake inspired by TV. I'm not gonna lie: hearing her talk to her kids while also dishing out cupcake instructions is my favorite part of this video! I also like that she doesn't speed through it, she tells you why she's using each ingredient and how it works. Yes, this is a long video, but I'd rather watch a longer video that walks you through each step than one that leaves things to the imagination. I also like that these are unusual (liquid aminos! paprika! cayenne!). Plus it's funny ("you don't even know what bacon is, you think it's a funny word"). And Happy Anniversary to Shannonmarie and her husband and good job to her son on being a videographer.

If you're not the video type, you can get not just one but two cupcake recipes over at Rawdorable, photos below. They're a strawberry lemonade cupcake and a Maple Fakin' cupcake.

Tori Spelling calls cupcakes "the perfect food" and endorses eating cupcake sandwiches

I'm a big Tori Spelling fan, so I love that she's so into cupcakes! In this post, "Have Your Cupcake and Eat It Too," at her lifestyle site ediTORIal, she extols the joys of cupcake sandwiches and cake posts and writes:

Cupcakes are God’s gift to kids (and kids at heart). I mean they really are the perfect food, no matter how big your appetite may be. Want a bite-sized treat? Easy! Need a fix that’s bigger than your face? Just put Sprinkles on speed dial.

But there’s a dirty little secret about cupcakes. We’ve all been guilty - yes, me too. It’s the cupcake bottom. I’m admitting it now; I always, always waste the cupcake bottom. It’s just so boring! And my kids are the same way. They peel the top off the cupcake and eat it, because (duh) that’s the part with the frosting. Then they leave the sad little cupcake bottom alone on the picnic table, only to grow stale before meeting its fate in the trashcan.

Ok, maybe cupcakes don’t have feelings, but you know what I mean – waste is bad! So how do we get our kids (and inner kid) to eat the whole cupcake?

Here's what she's come up with:
