NYC diner Deluxe hosting cupcake festival

Exciting! Glad we're hearing about it before it ends. New Yorkers: behold, a cupcake festival. From The Columbia Spectator:

Hey Columbia, we’ve got a treat for you. Literally. Our home-style diner Deluxe (2896 Broadway between 112th and 113th streets) is hosting their first ever cupcake festival. From now until September 18th, the restaurant will sell handmade cupcakes baked by their renowned pastry chef Regis Courivaud for $3 each...This is the first time Deluxe is sharing their cupcake recipe with the world, and they might add the dessert to their regular menu depending on customer responses. So far business has been good—they’ve sold over 200 cupcakes since the festival started on Monday.

Exit 9's New Shop Opens Today in NYC

We're all fans of Exit 9 here at CTTC, they always carry an abundance of cupcake merch, and their new shop (at 51 Avenue A, NYC's East Village)  is no exception.

Here's Lexi, showcasing the new cupcake kit (the old version may still be available, not sure).

I'm partial to the strawberries-and-cream-scented lip gloss.

 Cupcake nail file?! Sure!

 So many cupcake goodies!

Sock It To Me cupcake, robot and unicorn socks!! These would be a great gift for my favorite CakeSpy. I think they retail for $9 but are not available at the online shop, you'd have to come in to buy them.

Stress relief? Um, I'll take a hundred please.

 Erasers.

The newly opened shop is having all sorts of  raffles and prizes and there are plenty of cupcake-related cards and gifts; be sure to tell them Cupcakes Take the Cake sent you.

Ivy Bakery's New Manhattan Location Is Now Open

red velvet cupcake
Last weekend, I stopped by the brand new and beautiful Ivy Bakery which just opened at 138 West Houston Street in Soho/Village area of Manhattan. Daniellan, the owner, told me that the new place will stay open later, have a larger selection of baked goods, and will be available for private events. Also, there will be a DJ spinning tunes at night. I got a red velvet cupcake while there. There's a newbie specia l that Ivy Bakery is offering for Foursquare users. If you check-in, you a free cupcake with purchase.

Ivy Bakery will be a part of our Cupcake Crawl on Sunday, September 18 at 2PM. RSVP today.  We will be giving a prize at each stop.

Very cute milk and cookies mini cupcakes from Baked by Melissa, this month only

I checked out the new flavor of the month at mini cupcake bakery Baked by Melissa in New York, at their Union Square location. This cute cookie-studded cupcake is very sweet, and tastes indeed like milk, but like milk after your sugar cereal has been sitting in it for a long time. And the cake is the whitest cake I've ever seen. This works in mini form, but I think would be too much in a bigger cupcake. I've found that their special limited edition month-long flavors are usually my favorites. And they're only $1 each (cheaper if you buy more). See bakedbymelissa.com for more information; they also ship nationwide.

Peach cobbler and lemon meringue filled cupcakes at Molly's Cupcakes = yum yum yum!

I visited the new New York version of Molly's Cupcakes (see Nichelle's post about their opening, which is one of the most spacious cupcake bakeries in New York City and has what looks like the same flavors and much of the same design (sprinkle bar, swings) as the Chicago branch. Full writeup coming soon, but I loved the peach cobbler cupcake best (on top) and also the lemon meringue! $3.75 a cupcake is high for New York, and definitely adds up, plus these are sweet and big generally, so I recommend sharing with a friend or two!

peach cobbler cupcake, with an extra closeup of all the peach cobbler goodness - this had the best elements of everything, with fresh peach on top and it was chilled and the crumbly part was my favorite!

Molly's Cupcakes Now Open In New York City

Molly's Cupcakes in NY

Good Golly, Miss Molly is here! Molly's Cupcakes is a very popular Chicago bakery that has expanded to New York. Molly's Cupcakes has opened on 228 Bleecker Street in Greenwich Village. Instead of a big grand opening Wolfie the owner opted for a soft opening. I stopped by Friday afternoon and sampled a few of their centerfilled cupcakes.

Pistachio Ramadan cupcakes and India Day and Pakistan Day cupcakes at New York's Butter Lane

New York City's Butter Lane, with locations in the East Village (Manhattan) and Park Slope (Brooklyn), recently introduced cake pops to its menu, and is going to be serving special pistachio Ramadan cupcakes, per this press release:

For the first time ever, a New York City bakery has created specialty cupcakes to welcome the Muslim holy month known as Ramadan, the thirty days each year in which Muslims all over the globe fast from sunrise to sunset. Teaming with Divanee.com, Butter Lane locations in Manhattan and Brooklyn have designed cupcakes with a half-moon crescent and star.

A dollar of each cupcake purchase will benefit the Save A Mother Foundation, an educational organization aimed at empowering women and connecting them to public health systems in India. Save A Mother’s mission is to develop health care solutions for the poor, with a focus on childcare, nutrition, immunization, and maternal mortality reduction.

“We are pleased to team up with Butter Lane to support a great foundation whose mission is to educate and empower women. That’s part of what we’re all about.” said Miral Sattar, Publisher of Divanee.com.

Customers can order a limited edition Pistachio flavored cupcake or any of the many flavors available at both Butter Lane locations. Made with fresh ingredients including real vanilla beans, pure cocoa, dark chocolate, and both French and American buttercream icing, these cupcakes are both sweet and charitable.

Ramadan-inspired cupcakes are available now through August 29th, and, as an added bonus, Butter Lane will also be selling ‘India Day Cupcakes’ and ‘Pakistan Day Cupcakes’ on Indian and Pakistani national holidays respectively, August 13th and 14th. Stop by Butter Lane or call in to order today.

Visit butterlane.com or their Facebook page for more information. And I'm not sure if I knew this and forgot or it's new, but they also ship their cupcakes to the lower 48 states! They also offer delivery in Manhattan and Brooklyn.

Robicelli's to open Brooklyn cupcake bakery at end of July

One of our favorite New York City cupcake companies, Robicelli's, is profiled in the New York Daily News, which reveals that they're opening their first retail storefront bakery in the DeKalb Market in Brooklyn at the end of July! (They used to own a gourmet market which also sold cupcakes.). Very exciting news for Robicelli's fans and those who've yet to discover their unique, fun flavors.

From the article, which has more information on how they got started and built their family-run business:

"We started using a borrowed kitchen and $40 in quarters I stole from my kids' piggy bank to buy butter and eggs," says Allison.

Now, 150 flavors later, with nearly 400 recipes still on their wish list, Matt and Allison have made Robicelli's irresistible.

Their unconventional flavors include Allison's favorite, Chicken and Waffles, and Matt's favorite, The Elvis — a peanut butter, bacon and banana combo.

They send out 1,400 cupcakes on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays to 15 locations, most recently Battery Place Market. They include everything from blue cheese to tiramisu.

Every cupcake, it seems, is a labor of love. Here's how Allison describes one:

"To make the tiramisu, first we make an espresso cake and then we hand-soak every cupcake into a dark espresso syrup to make sure that each is dripping with flavor. We take dark chocolate and espresso to make a really rich ganache and coat each and every one. We then make our French butter cream, which you really only see on wedding cakes, and put it on top of the cake. We then dust a nice, rich, Dutch processed cocoa powder from Belgium over the top of that."

Photos from the Robicelli's Facebook page:

Pecan French Toast, Toasted Almond, Bananas Foster, Bea Arthur

Wild Maine Blueberry Cobbler, Cinnamon Bun, The Bluth, Butterbeer
